Canon has introduced the EOS R6 Mark III, a camera that blends many features of the Canon EOS C50 with a body optimized for still photography. Despite its focus on photos, it delivers strong video performance as well.
The R6 Mark III uses the same 32MP full-frame sensor as the C50, improving upon the R6 Mark II’s 24.2MP CMOS sensor. However, it lacks both the Dual Gain Output (DGO) and back-illuminated stacked CMOS technology present in the EOS C80, C400, and R3 models.
“The EOS R6 Mark III shares many of the same features and functionality as the Canon EOS C50, but in a form factor better suited for still photography.”
It’s notable that Canon chose not to use a back-illuminated stacked sensor here, a technology often adopted for superior autofocus speed and low-light sensitivity. This likely reflects a design focused on balancing cost, photo performance, and video capability.
The R6 Mark III features the DIGIC DV 7 processor, the same chip powering the C50, C80, C400, C500 Mark II, and C300 Mark III. This consistency ensures similar image processing across Canon’s cinema and hybrid camera lines.
The Canon EOS R6 Mark III combines a 33MP full-frame sensor and DIGIC DV 7 processor to deliver high-quality stills and up to 7K RAW recording, aligning closely with Canon’s cinema line technology.
