Calgary police have launched an intensive campaign to address crime and social disorder in the city’s downtown. The effort is spearheaded by Chief Katie McLellan, known for her tough approach to law enforcement.
“We have to get serious about the crime and social disorder in this city,” said McLellan, repeating her commitment to restoring safety in central Calgary.
A hundred officers assembled in the East Village before deploying across key downtown zones under an initiative called Operation Order. They are targeting known trouble areas where patrol presence offers reassurance to law-abiding citizens while confronting offenders and assisting vulnerable individuals on the streets.
The visible increase in police activity has been welcomed by many downtown residents and business owners who have long asked for stronger safety measures. Officers report engaging not only with criminals but also with individuals in need of social support.
“Uniforms on the street are a welcome sight to the law-abiding among us,” McLellan noted.
Calgary intensifies its downtown policing under Chief Katie McLellan’s firm direction, aiming to curb rising crime and restore confidence in public safety.
