Universal Pictures is developing a new installment of its popular 'Mummy' franchise, with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz reportedly in discussions to return, sources tell Deadline. The actors are expected to reprise their roles from the beloved 1990s and early 2000s films.
The film will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence, from a script written by David Coggeshall, known for The Family Plan and The Deliverance. Sean Daniel, a franchise veteran, is set to produce alongside William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein of Project X Entertainment.
This project reunites Radio Silence with Project X, who recently collaborated on the Scream franchise reboot, except for Scream 7, which Radio Silence did not direct but Project X produced. The duo also worked with Project X on the horror sequel Ready or Not: Here I Come for Searchlight Pictures.
