Justin Rose has reportedly decided not to succeed Luke Donald as Team Europe Ryder Cup captain for the 2027 event at Adare Manor.
According to James Corrigan of the Telegraph, Rose will officially withdraw his candidacy to focus on competing as a player for a potential eighth Ryder Cup appearance.
The 45-year-old English golfer has had a strong season, finishing runner-up to Rory McIlroy at The Masters and winning his first PGA Tour title in over two years at the FedEx St Jude Championship.
Rose earned two points from three matches at the last Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black and remains unbeaten in his last five fourballs and foursomes matches.
The decision places DP World Tour officials in a difficult position regarding the next captaincy choice.
Insiders rate Luke Donald’s chances of returning for a third consecutive term as “less than 50/50.”
This leaves the captaincy role open to other potential candidates.
Justin Rose has chosen to prioritize playing over captaincy at the 2027 Ryder Cup, creating uncertainty for Team Europe's leadership amid Luke Donald's uncertain return.
