Republicans Expected to Retain Majority in Nassau County Legislature

With about 76% of countywide votes counted, the Nassau County Legislature is projected to stay under Republican control. The current expected composition is 11 Republicans and 8 Democrats.

At present, the Legislature has an 11–7 Republican majority, with one seat empty following the resignation of former District 15 legislator John Ferretti, who became the Hempstead town supervisor. Before the vacancy, Republicans held a 12–7 advantage.

After Tuesday’s election, Democrats succeeded in flipping District 14, marking their only gain in this cycle. The Nassau County Legislature consists of 19 representatives, each serving one of the county’s 19 districts.
