Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown has been extradited from Dubai and is set to face trial in Miami on an attempted murder charge. The case stems from a shooting incident outside a boxing event earlier this year.
Authorities allege that during an altercation at an amateur boxing event in Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood on May 16, Brown fired two shots at a man identified as Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu.
According to the arrest warrant, Brown appeared to grab “a black firearm from the right hip area” of a security official before firing at Nantambu.
The All-Pro receiver, who spent most of his 12-year NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, had reportedly not returned to Florida after the incident.
Law enforcement confirmed to NBC Miami that the 37-year-old athlete was extradited from Dubai, where he was allegedly trying to avoid U.S. authorities. He arrived in Newark, New Jersey, and was booked into Essex County Jail on Thursday, a U.S. official stated.
Plans are in place to transfer Brown to South Florida, but the exact timing of his transport has not been disclosed.
Video shared on social media shows Brown engaged in a physical confrontation during the May event, which was hosted by internet personality Adin Ross.
