Channel Nine faces a change as longtime weathergirl Livinia Nixon announces her surprising departure from 9News Melbourne, ending a 20-year run presenting the weather. She confirmed her decision to step back to prioritize her family.
“After 20 years presenting weather on 9News, I’ve decided to step back from this role. My sons will both be in high school and I want to be there to support them. It’s been a privilege to be welcomed into viewers’ homes for so long, but this is the right time for my family,” said Nixon, referencing her two sons, Henry and Ted.
Livinia credited the weather presenting role for shaping her life and career and emphasized its importance while affirming her choice to focus on family.
“Presenting the weather has shaped my life and career. I owe this role everything but this is the right decision for me. When I discussed it with our boys, they said ‘we’re pretty excited to spend more time with you, Mum.’”
Livinia joined the Nine network in 1997 after gaining popularity on "Hey Hey It’s Saturday" alongside game show veteran Daryl Somers. Although stepping down from the weather desk, she will continue her work with Nine, appearing on travel programs such as Getaway and Postcards.
“I’m thrilled to be staying with Nine and will be continuing my roles on Getaway and Postcards.”
Livinia Nixon ends her 20-year tenure as Nine’s weathergirl to focus on family but remains active with the network’s travel shows, highlighting her ongoing commitment to Nine.
