SALT LAKE CITY — Elder Gérald Caussé, originally from France and former Presiding Bishop of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was called and ordained as the newest member of the Church’s Quorum of the Twelve Apostles on Thursday.
He was ordained by President Dallin H. Oaks along with other members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. This Quorum is the Church's second-highest presiding body, with members serving as special witnesses of Christ and managing the Church's global administrative duties.
“I’ve always had a testimony of Jesus Christ,” Elder Caussé said on Thursday. “And I know He’s our Savior and Redeemer. What a wonderful thing it is to be a witness of Christ.”
Elder Caussé was born in Bordeaux, France, in 1963 and moved to Paris at age 19. He and his wife, Valérie Babin Caussé, are second-generation members of the Church. They married in the Bern Switzerland Temple in 1986 and have five children.
Throughout his ministry, Elder Caussé has been recognized as a notable voice in the Church community.
