Elder Gérald Caussé Called as Newest Apostle

Elder Gérald Caussé is the first member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles from France and has served as the Church’s presiding bishop for the past decade. He was called to the Quorum to fill the vacancy left by the passing of President Russell M. Nelson.

He was ordained on Thursday, November 7, with President Oaks and other leaders of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in attendance. At the time of his call, Elder Caussé was serving as the Church’s presiding bishop.

A native of Bordeaux, France, Elder Caussé is the fourth member of the current Quorum born outside the United States. He and his wife, Sister Valérie Caussé, have raised three children living in multiple countries, including France, Germany, and the United States.

“I’ve always had a testimony of Jesus Christ. He’s always been in the center of my life. And I know He’s our Savior and Redeemer. What a wonderful thing it is to be a witness of Christ. That’s the best responsibility or stewardship we might have in our lives.”

Elder Caussé recently addressed the annual Utah YSA conference in Salt Lake City and has consistently spoken about youth and young adults throughout his service as a Church leader.

Summary: Elder Gérald Caussé, the first French Apostle and former presiding bishop, emphasizes the profound responsibility of witnessing Jesus Christ in his new Church role.
