The Buffalo Sabres return to the ice Thursday night to face a struggling St. Louis Blues team. The Blues hold a 4-8-2 record this season and have managed only one win in their last nine games, including a heavy 6-1 defeat to the Washington Capitals.
In an unexpected move, the Blues announced that forward Jordan Kyrou will be a healthy scratch for the game. This decision, reported by Jeremy Rutherford from The Athletic, took many by surprise given Kyrou’s consistent scoring record.
“Many players could have been scratched after last night’s game, and ultimately I decided on this group tonight,”
said Blues head coach Jim Montgomery when asked about the choice.
Kyrou, who has posted three consecutive 30-goal seasons and is currently tied for second on the team in goals and points, seems an unlikely candidate for benching. He has also fared well historically against the Sabres, registering nine points in ten career meetings.
For Buffalo, this development is certainly favorable, as they won’t have to contain one of St. Louis’s top offensive threats.
The St. Louis Blues made a shocking lineup change scratching Jordan Kyrou, which boosts the Buffalo Sabres’ chances in their upcoming matchup.
