FireDrone Receives €161K from Venture Kick for Heat-Resistant Drones
Swiss startup FireDrone, an Empa spin-off, secured €161,000 (CHF 150,000) from Venture Kick to advance its development of drones capable of operating in extreme heat conditions. These drones aim to improve safety in emergency response and industrial inspections by protecting people, infrastructure, and the environment.
Challenges in High-Temperature Environments
Firefighters and industrial safety teams often face dangers when working in hot environments such as burning buildings or industrial furnaces. These hazards include toxic smoke, unstable structures, and severe heat, which typically prevent conventional drones from providing real-time situational awareness.
Innovative Heat-Resistant Drone Technology
FireDrone creates autonomous drones that can endure temperatures around 200°C using thermal insulation and cooling technologies. This enables reliable hazard detection and supports operational decisions, reducing downtime and enhancing safety in environments where standard drones fail.
