Over 5 Million Under 65s with Long-Term Health Conditions May Miss Flu Vaccine

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is concerned that many people at risk do not realize they are eligible for a flu vaccine.

Vaccination Rates Among At-Risk Groups

Recent data reveals that less than a third (28.9%) of people with one or more long-term health conditions (LTHCs) have received a flu vaccine.

Among 9 million individuals under 65 years old within clinical risk groups, only 40% were vaccinated during the 2024–25 season.
This leaves over 5 million people unvaccinated and vulnerable to influenza.
Among older adults aged 65 and over, vaccination uptake is higher, with 61.5% vaccinated so far this year, and 74.9% vaccinated last year.
Nevertheless, many over 65s with LTHCs remain unprotected.

Increased Risk for Some Clinical Groups

For some clinical groups, the risk of influenza-related mortality compared with the general population is much higher.
