Several individuals became ill at Joint Base Andrews after receiving a suspicious package containing an unknown white powder. The package was opened inside a building at the base, prompting an immediate evacuation.
Joint Base Andrews, located in Maryland near Washington, faced an emergency when the unknown powder was discovered. The building where the package was opened, which also houses the Air National Guard Readiness Center, was evacuated along with an adjacent connecting building.
“As a precaution, the building and connecting building (at the base) were evacuated, and a cordon was established around the area,” said a statement from Joint Base Andrews.
Those affected were treated at the Malcolm Grove Medical Center located on the base. First responders confirmed there was no immediate threat and handed over the investigation to the Office of Special Investigations.
