Knicks insider reveals reasoning behind Josh Hart opting to play through finger injury | Sporting News

Knicks Insider Explains Josh Hart’s Decision to Play Through Finger Injury

New York Knicks forward Josh Hart has been managing a finger and hand injury since the start of the season. He initially sustained the injury last year and then aggravated it again during the offseason.

Despite a tough start to the season, Hart has recently returned to a performance level familiar to Knicks fans. Over his last three games, he is averaging 14.6 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists per game.

Hart’s shooting, especially from beyond the arc, has also improved significantly. In the Knicks’ latest game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, he made four out of five three-point attempts.

Reasons Behind Playing Through the Injury

Choosing not to undergo surgery now and instead playing through the injury is a calculated risk. Ian Begley of SNY shared insights on this decision.

“If you go in and you have that surgery, yes, the timetable is reportedly three months - but you're talking about your shooting hand, nerves in your hand - it's a big risk, big rehab in season,” Begley explained. “I was one of the people who thought, 'why not just get under the knife, get it over with, and come back?' But after asking him about it, the things he was saying made a lot of sense to me.”

Hart appears to have regained his rhythm despite the injury and aims to continue performing at a high level as the season goes on.
