The 2025 Emirates NBA Cup, known as the NBA In-Season Tournament, offers teams a new midseason challenge introduced to boost competition and fan interest ahead of the All-Star break. Originally launched in 2023, the tournament strengthens engagement during a period often overshadowed by other major sports leagues.
The Emirates NBA Cup was first announced on July 8, 2023. Commissioner Adam Silver highlighted its role in sparking new traditions and energy within the league.
“New traditions take time. But, all throughout sports, we are seeing new innovations, and now is the time for this NBA In-Season Tournament.” — Adam Silver
The competition includes two stages leading to the final Championship game: a monthlong Group Play Round followed by a single-elimination Knockout Round consisting of Quarterfinals and Semifinals.
During group play, each team competes against its four group opponents once — two games at home and two away — following regular NBA scheduling rules.
The Emirates NBA Cup adds excitement to the early NBA season, combining innovation and competition across a structured midseason tournament format.
