Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Alex Vesia and his wife Kayla shared the heartbreaking news of their baby daughter's passing on Friday.
Our little angel, we love you forever & you're with us always. Our beautiful daughter went to heaven Sunday, October 26th. There are no words to describe the pain we're going through but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her.
In his Instagram post, Vesia thanked the Dodgers organization for their support during this difficult time.
Thank you to the Dodgers for their understanding and support. Our baseball family showed up for us and we wouldn't be able to do this without them. Thank you Dodger Nation, Blue Jays organization, and all baseball fans for your love and support. We have seen all your messages, comments, and posts. It's brought us so much comfort.
He also expressed gratitude to the medical staff at Cedars-Sinai who cared for Kayla and the baby.
Lastly, we'd like to thank Cedars Sinai and all the medical staff who helped Kayla and Sterling. Every person we came across was truly so incredible.
Vesia shared a black and white photo showing his daughter Sterling's hand resting on top of his and Kayla's hands. The cause of death has not been disclosed.
Vesia had been away from the Dodgers since October 23, when the team announced he and his wife, who was in her third trimester, were facing a “deeply personal matter.”
