Russia blames Kyiv, European countries for stalled Ukrainian peace process

Russia Blames Kyiv and Europe for Ukrainian Peace Process Stalemate

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated on Friday that the pause in resolving the Ukrainian conflict stems from Kyiv's reluctance to pursue a political and diplomatic solution. He accused the European Union of provoking Ukraine to continue the fighting.

"The main thing that is currently slowing down the settlement process is the pause that has arisen due to the unwillingness of the Ukrainian side to follow the path of a political and diplomatic settlement, and due to the provocation of the Kyiv regime by the Europeans to continue further hostilities."

Regarding US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff's comments on a lack of trust between Russia and Ukraine, Peskov confirmed the complete absence of mutual trust.

"Of course, we cannot talk about any kind of mutual trust now. This is not a deficit of trust, but its absence."

Peskov avoided commenting on US President Donald Trump's claim that he has already ended eight armed conflicts this year and wishes to count the Ukrainian issue among his achievements, despite Washington asserting significant progress.

About a potential meeting between President Putin and President Trump, Peskov said such talks will eventually be needed by both sides but must follow thorough preparatory work.

Author's summary: The Kremlin blames Kyiv’s reluctance and European influence for the stalled Ukrainian peace process, highlighting a total absence of trust between Russia and Ukraine.
