Acting icon Alison Steadman has revealed progress in her recovery after a severe fall in Dubai earlier this year left her wheelchair-bound and requiring surgery. The 79-year-old Gavin & Stacey star was attending a poetry event in January when she tripped on an uneven concrete walkway at a restaurant, resulting in a broken metatarsal bone and a fractured hand.
The injuries forced her to pause both her personal life and acting career. However, speaking exclusively to the Mirror at the Comedy Women In Print Prize held at London’s Groucho Club, Alison shared encouraging news.
“That fall was just terrible, shocking - it was an awful time. I’ve got to have another operation on my foot soon, to take the metal screws out of it. But I've finally just stopped using a stick, which is great - I am walking again, hurrah!”
Despite the setback, Alison’s career is thriving. The BBC sitcom Here We Go, in which she plays matriarch Sue of the Jessop Family, is set for a festive special and a new series next year.
“I just love it, being part of that family. I love working with the likes of Jim Hawick and Katherine Parkinson. It's a great cast and the writing is just superb.”
Alison Steadman is recovering well from her injuries sustained in Dubai and continues to enjoy a successful acting career with upcoming projects.
