Solar Perovskites Power U.S. Army Deployable Microgrid Demonstration

U.S.-manufactured perovskites produced by Swift Solar were used in a demonstration of a Rapid Deployment Hybrid Microgrid for critical infrastructure cyber defense.

Swift Solar, a U.S.-based manufacturer of perovskite tandem solar cells, announced its technology was deployed in a U.S. Department of Defense cyber security demonstration, marking one of the first operational deployments of perovskites.

The perovskite solar cells were integrated with the Rapid Deployment Hybrid MicroGrid (RDHM) developed by Resilient Energy & Infrastructure. The modular microgrids are designed for quick setup and re-location, built in ruggedized 10 ft., 20 ft., and 40 ft. standard shipping containers, making them deployable in disaster response, military operation, or remote power generation applications.

The deployable microgrid makes use of multiple energy inputs, containing a diesel generator and battery energy storage system along with the perovskite solar cells.
