More police presence eyed for pending supportive housing in Sarnia

Increased Police Presence for Supportive Housing in Sarnia

Residents near the potential supportive housing on George Street can expect more police patrols if the project proceeds, according to the city's police chief, Derek Davis.

“Certainly in the early phases,” said Derek Davis. “And then we would wait and measure and see what materializes and adjust from there.”

Davis' comments follow the Sarnia city council's recent decision to task city staff with developing a formal safety plan for the proposed 50-unit supportive housing build, in collaboration with the police, the County of Lambton, and the charity Indwell.

The project has sparked mixed reactions from neighbors, who appreciate the idea of supportive housing but would prefer it to be located elsewhere.
