Airports are gearing up for the holiday season amidst the ongoing government shutdown. According to Lauren Gonzales, Santa Barbara Airport Marketing Supervisor, larger airports are more likely to be affected by the shutdown.
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) experienced temporary flight groundings from Oakland to LA on Sunday due to staffing shortages. However, Santa Barbara Airport has not seen significant impacts on operations.
"We really haven't seen much impact on operations at SBA luckily but we are keeping in close contact with our Federal partners to be in touch on any changes that they see on their end,"
said Gonzales. A government worker, who wished to remain anonymous, reported being delayed by issues at other airports while traveling.
