When the church decided to increase local outreach efforts, its leaders were unaware of the profound impact it would have on them. Spurlock's journey began with a simple "yes" to the job invitation, leveraging her experience as an administrator to the pastor of outreach, missions, and adult education.
"I believe we're called to love people around the world and right here in our community,"
she said, emphasizing the importance of serving others globally and locally. In Santa Cruz, this means feeding the poor, housing the unhoused, and visiting prisoners, as led by Lead Pastor René Schlaepfer's vision for a stronger local outreach presence.
