Compliance in Aged Care: A Threat to Soulful Care?
I have spent 31 years in the aged care sector, 25 of which as a CEO. The new Aged Care Act, effective November 1, promises to prioritize older people in the care model, a goal the sector largely supports.
However, after three decades in the sector, I wonder if the reform will truly impact frontline care or be overshadowed by the growing compliance burden. I recall my early days as a care worker, completing accreditation workbooks by hand on A3 paper.
Over time, systems have evolved: PCAI, RCS, ACFI, and now AN-ACC, aiming to simplify and fairify federal fund allocation.
The guarantee of reform will truly reach the frontline, or whether the growing burden of compliance may overshadow the direct care staff delivers.
