Lord Alton of Liverpool, a prominent pro-life Peer, has warned that abortion up to birth "should have no place in a civilised society".

He made these remarks in a planned speech against Tonia Antoniazzi's Clause 191, which allows a woman to terminate her pregnancy at any stage without sanction. This clause was passed by MPs in June with only 46 minutes of debate.
Lord Alton explained that this proposal is "radical and disturbing" and would endanger women by removing legal deterrents against performing dangerous late-term abortions at home, likely leading to an increase in viable babies' lives being ended.
He backed Baroness Monckton MBE's amendment to remove the clause from the Bill.
