Despite a 13% increase in foreign overnight stays in Northern Norway in September 2025, tour operators in Kirkenes are concerned about the upcoming winter season.
According to NHO Reiseliv, the largest community of tourism leaders in Norway, the biggest growth was seen in Troms county, with a 16% increase, and Nordland, with a 15% increase.
However, Finnmark experienced a 2% decrease in tourism in September, causing concern among experts.
"We will have huge problems this winter season"
Experts spoken to by the Barents Observer are worried about the region, which includes the Norwegian Arctic town of Kirkenes.
