Police Investigation into Falsified Breath Tests
Over 100 police officers are still working despite being under investigation for falsifying alcohol breath tests.
NZ Police has not ruled out the possibility of criminal investigations after it was discovered that 30,000 tests were falsified.
- 120 staff were initially under investigation
- 30,000 alcohol breath tests were "falsely or erroneously recorded"
- The falsified results were only discovered after police built a new algorithm to analyse the data
The devices could not distinguish between legitimate and illegitimate tests.
All staff under investigation are still working and have not been stood down.
