More people are drowning on Australian beaches than ever, with some attributing the increase to the loss of compulsory swimming standards for kids.
Last year, the Royal Life Saving's annual drowning report recorded 128 drowning deaths in NSW, the highest number since statistics were first recorded.
Half of all children leave primary school in NSW at age 12 unable to swim even 50m!
Surf Life Saving Australia's survey also highlighted a decline in swimming skills as a key contributor to the rising drowning rate.
These statistics are troubling and unacceptable in a modern society that mostly lives on the coast.
Australia's drowning rates should be decreasing, not increasing.
