Democrats have secured seats in both the Nassau and Suffolk County Legislatures, with one Republican incumbent defeated in Suffolk and an open seat won in Nassau.
In Suffolk's 1st District, Democrat Greg Doroski defeated Republican Legis. Stark for the North Fork seat. Meanwhile, in Nassau, Democrats claimed an open seat.
“In Suffolk County, when we get knocked down, we get right back up and we’re ready to fight,” said Suffolk Democratic chairman Richard Schaffer.
With most precincts reporting, no other incumbents appeared to have been ousted, although results were not yet final in Nassau's 9th district, where Republican Scott P. Strauss was leading Democrat Juleigh Chin.
Author's summary: Democrats picked up seats in both counties.
