Portland police arrest 40, send 39 to shelters, in 1st week since city resumed enforcement of camping ban

Portland Police Enforce Camping Ban More Strictly

During the first week after the city of Portland resumed enforcement of its camping ban, police served 39 warrants and arrested 40 individuals, according to a city press release issued Thursday. This enforcement escalation was directed by Mayor Keith Wilson.

Enforcement Details and Policy

Mayor Wilson emphasized that no one would be arrested solely for camping. Arrests were focused on people involved in criminal activities or those with outstanding warrants. City outreach workers were present alongside officers at all campsites during enforcement.

"No one would be arrested simply for camping under the ramped up enforcement, but those engaged in criminal activity or with existing warrants would be," said Mayor Wilson.
