We’re back to Green on the Threat Tracker as winds have calmed and only some passing lake rain showers remain this morning. Rain chances should end by afternoon with partly to mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid 40s. Winds remain light, with the strongest gusts around 20 MPH.
Winds will increase tomorrow ahead of a new front, bringing gusts up to 30 MPH and rain in the afternoon and evening. Saturday will be cool and cloudy with calmer winds. On Sunday, a low pressure system passes nearby, causing rain locally and snow across the lake.
Going into Sunday night, cold air will wrap around the system, giving us our first chance for snow. Higher elevations have the best chance to see flakes Sunday night.
Monday will bring a surge of cold Canadian air deep into the US, likely producing some lake-effect snow with winds from the north. Tuesday offers a better chance for lake-effect snow off Lake Ontario as winds shift to the northwest. Significant accumulations are not expected yet, but timing and amounts will be clearer in the coming days.
Make sure to tune back in for updates on that. Either way, it will be cold, with neither Monday nor Tuesday getting past the 30s.
A clipper system will pass through Wednesday, bringing some rain and breezy winds.
Summary: A cool, mainly dry day precedes increasing winds and rain this weekend, followed by the first chances of snow next week as cold air moves in from the north.
