The Boyle post office is set to move to a new location early next year, accompanied by a new postmaster appointment. An Post has confirmed that Paul Kelly Jnr of Kelly’s SuperValu Boyle has accepted the company’s offer to manage the post office.
The branch will relocate from its current site on Shop Street to the SuperValu Shopping Centre at Elphin Street, approximately 450 metres away. The new premises, a vacant retail unit within Kelly’s SuperValu, is scheduled to open on February 3rd.
Late last year, An Post engaged the auctioneering firm Cushman & Wakefield to oversee the sale of 14 town centre post offices, including the Boyle building. The asking price for the Boyle property stands at €130,000.
“Yes, when we placed the former post office on the market we were doing so on the basis that it would remain as a post office. However, one could never rule out the new contractor giving up their contract, as happened here, not that new applicants would favour a new location,” said an An Post spokesperson.
“That’s what happened here and we have been lucky in coming up with an ideal new location and the chance to provide a new modern facility for the people of Boyle.”
The Boyle post office will reopen on February 3rd in a new Elphin Street location managed by Paul Kelly Jnr, marking a modern upgrade for the community.
