Devils tie it late in 3rd, edge Canadiens in OT

Jesper Bratt sealed the game 1:33 into overtime, lifting the New Jersey Devils to a 4–3 comeback victory over the Montreal Canadiens at Prudential Center on Thursday. Earlier, Timo Meier tied it with just 1:07 remaining in regulation.

Bratt also contributed an assist, while Jack Hughes recorded two assists for the Devils (10-4-0), who remain perfect at home this season (6-0-0). Goaltender Jacob Markstrom made 16 saves in the win.

“I just tried to read the goalie’s movement and felt like I came in with a lot of speed,” Bratt said. “I felt pretty comfortable in that situation to make him believe I’d do one thing, then react to what he was doing.”

This victory made New Jersey the first team of the season to reach 10 wins.

“It’s great to get 10 wins, but we want to keep building our game,” said forward Timo Meier. “We know what we’re trying to accomplish each day — to improve and push each other. This was a good one to learn from.”

Canadiens' effort falls short

Noah Dobson provided two assists, and rookie goaltender Jakub Dobes made 24 saves for the Canadiens (9-3-2). Montreal had previously won all five of their overtime games this season. Dobes began the year with six straight victories, posting a 1.97 goals-against average and .930 save percentage. The 24-year-old was emotional after the game, taking responsibility for the defeat.
