Former Central Michigan University and NFL player Antonio Brown has been arrested on an attempted murder charge related to a shooting in Miami. Police confirmed that Brown was detained in Dubai and transported to Newark, New Jersey, where he awaits extradition to Miami.
The charge stems from an altercation on May 16, during a celebrity boxing event in Miami. After the event, shots were fired, and Brown was briefly questioned by police. He took to social media to explain his side of the story.
“I was jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me. Police temporarily detained me until they received my side of the story and then released me. I went home that night and was not arrested.” — Antonio Brown
In June, an AP report stated that Brown was later named in an arrest warrant. Investigators allege he took a handgun from a security guard and fired twice at a man he had previously fought with. The victim said one bullet grazed his neck.
Miami Police Chief Manuel Morales confirmed that Brown is currently in custody in Newark and will be extradited soon to face charges linked to the May shooting in Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood.
“Let this serve as a clear message; no matter who you are or where you run, we will pursue the facts, identify you, locate you, and bring you to justice.” — Chief Manuel Morales
Antonio Brown, detained on an attempted murder charge after a Miami shooting, now awaits extradition as police finalize their investigation into the incident.
