Gérald Caussé, a key figure behind the recent global temple construction surge, has been named the newest apostle of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. At 62, Caussé joins the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, the church’s all-male leadership body directly beneath the president and his two chief counselors.
A native of France, Caussé brings deep expertise in the church’s extensive finances and a strong connection to its worldwide temple projects, where important sacred ceremonies occur. Apostles in the church help determine policies and oversee numerous business ventures that the faith manages.
The LDS Church does not openly share details about its financial matters. However, filings from its investment arm, Ensign Peak Advisors Inc., reveal a portfolio valued at $58 billion. Caussé has defended the church’s discretion regarding its funds, stating in 2020:
“We really consider those funds as belonging to the Lord.”
Caussé replaces a vacancy in the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles created by the passing of President Russell M. Nelson and the subsequent appointment in October of President Dallin H. Oaks, a 93-year-old former Utah Supreme Court justice.
Gérald Caussé’s appointment strengthens the LDS Church’s leadership with financial acumen and experience in its temple expansion, underscoring the church's ongoing global growth and strategic management.
