Senior Liberal Senator Sarah Henderson has publicly expressed doubt about Sussan Ley's leadership amid growing internal debate within the Coalition over the net zero emissions policy.
Senator Henderson stated she "cannot support the way things are" within the party as a decisive partyroom meeting on net zero is scheduled for Sunday, November 16. The Liberal Party faces increasing pressure to clarify its stance on net zero, especially following the Nationals' decision to abandon the policy.
In an interview with Sky News Australia host Peter Stefanovic, Henderson expressed concern that Ley is losing backing within the party.
"I can't pretend things are good. We've had a dire Newspoll result, a primary vote of just 24 per cent. Things are not traveling well," said Senator Henderson.
"I do have to say, really honestly, I do think Sussan is losing support, but I do believe in miracles, we can turn things around. I don't support things the way they are at the moment."
