Substitute Jae-Sung Lee scored deep into added time as Mainz overturned a deficit to defeat Fiorentina, extending their winning streak to three matches in this season's UEFA Conference League.
After impressive 1-0 victories against Omonia Nicosia and Zrinjski Mostar, Mainz began strongly but fell behind against the run of play. Danny Costa’s misplaced pass was intercepted, leading to Simon Sohm finishing calmly at the edge of the box.
Goalkeeper Robin Zentner denied Roberto Piccoli from doubling Fiorentina's lead shortly after. Near halftime, Kacper Potulski made a crucial challenge to block a shot from Piccoli.
Early in the second half, Piccoli missed a clear chance. Mainz responded swiftly when Hollerbach, who had come on as a substitute, initiated and completed a well-crafted team goal just under three minutes after entering the pitch.
Fiorentina’s substitute Moise Kean came close to scoring but headed over from close range.
Lady Luck was clearly shining on the home side, who snatched all three points when Lee headed in fellow sub Kaishu Sano's cross in the fifth minute of added time.
Next, Mainz will face Romania’s Universitatea Craiova on 27 November in their upcoming European fixture.
