Maple Leafs continuing to explore trade market for Robertson, Kampf

Maple Leafs Explore Trade Options for Robertson and Kampf

The Toronto Maple Leafs are actively looking into potential trades involving forwards Nick Robertson and David Kampf, TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger reports.

Nick Robertson's Season Overview

Robertson, recently placed on the team's top line, has scored two goals and accumulated four points in 10 games this season. His playing time has varied significantly, ranging from a healthy scratch to logging a season-high 17:22 minutes during a loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. In that game, he started alongside Auston Matthews and Bobby McMann, filling in for the injured William Nylander.

David Kampf's Situation

Kampf has spent the season with the AHL's Marlies, recording one assist in four games after being waived before the season began. Although he carries a $2.4 million cap hit for next season, his cap hit currently counts as $1.25 million against Toronto’s salary cap while playing in the AHL.

Management Perspective

“We know that GM Brad Treliving continues to explore the idea of moving both David Kampf and Nick Robertson," said Dreger on Insider Trading. “Now, the veteran David Kampf, who’s in the American Hockey League, it’s more about just getting off the money. For Nick Robertson, this guy is a bottom-six, he’s a top-six, he’s in the press box, he’s scoring goals. He’s a young guy who the Toronto Maple Leafs have time for and they are in no rush to move him out. If they were to get the right sort of return for Nick Robertson, it would be a player of a similar age."

Robertson remains a flexible asset for the Leafs, capable of fitting various roles, while Kampf’s trade potential is largely linked to salary cap considerations.

Author’s summary: The Maple Leafs are considering trades for Nick Robertson and David Kampf, aiming to balance young talent with cap space flexibility while seeking reasonable exchange value.
