The Bowling Green State University Democracy and Public Policy Research Network conducted a poll last month involving 800 registered Ohio voters.
The poll shows former Senator Sherrod Brown and current Senator Jon Husted are in a very close contest for Ohio’s U.S. Senate seat, with results within the 4.5% margin of error.
In the race for Ohio governor, Republican Vivek Ramaswamy holds a narrow lead over former Ohio Department of Health Director Amy Acton and former U.S. official Ryan, who has not declared candidacy. All candidates remain within the poll’s margin of error.
“Ohio will certainly be on many people’s minds this time next year,” said Robert Alexander, BGSU political science professor and poll conductor.
The president’s party typically faces challenges during midterm elections, and the poll indicates President Donald Trump’s approval rating has declined among Ohio voters. Voters express particular dissatisfaction with the economy.
“That might explain a little bit of what we’re seeing here,” Alexander said.
“A year ago, this was the big question: Who’s going to bring down the price of eggs?”
The latest BGSU poll reveals a competitive political climate in Ohio, with closely matched candidates and growing voter concerns over economic issues impacting presidential approval.
