Brahim Kaddour Cherif, a registered sex offender mistakenly released from HMP Wandsworth, was tracked down and arrested after a member of the public spotted him and alerted the police.
The Metropolitan Police was notified of the accidental release of 24-year-old Cherif on Tuesday and promptly launched a search to locate him. Cherif was originally convicted in November 2024 for indecent exposure during an incident earlier that year.
Cherif, an Algerian national, is believed to have connections to Tower Hamlets and was known to frequent the Westminster area.
At 11:23 am on Friday, 7 November, a member of the public reported seeing a man suspected to be Brahim Kaddour-Cherif near Capital City College on Blackstock Road in Islington. Officers arrived quickly and detained a man matching his description at 11:30 am. After confirming his identity, he was arrested for being unlawfully at large.
He was additionally arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker in an unrelated case and has since been taken into police custody. The Prison Service has been notified of the incident.
