Nearly 50 children in Budapest have been hospitalised due to suspected mass food poisoning. Most of the affected are from nurseries and schools in the city's 13th district.
The Heim Pál National Paediatric Institute confirmed the children were admitted with symptoms including vomiting, diarrhoea, and dehydration. Several required intravenous treatment. All patients are currently stable, and their care continues without interruption.
By Thursday afternoon and evening, multiple parents reported their children fell ill after eating lunch at their nursery or school. A report by Telex identified the Futár Street nursery in the 13th district as one of the affected locations, though children from other districts showed similar symptoms.
One parent, Judit, shared: “My son began vomiting during the night. We replaced his lost fluids at home, so he didn’t need hospital treatment, but several of his classmates were taken to Heim Pál hospital.”
The hospital stated that the situation is under control. Pénzcentrum reported the hospital reassured parents with:
“Our doctors and nurses are doing everything to ensure the children recover as quickly as possible.”
Experts emphasize that dehydration is especially dangerous for young children and requires close attention.
Summary: Nearly 50 children in Budapest's 13th district suffered food poisoning from school meals; all are stable and receiving ongoing treatment, with medical staff working to ensure full recovery.
