Hemel Hempstead MP David Taylor recently met with Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood to address rising crime and antisocial behaviour in the town, following several major police operations across Hertfordshire.
During their meeting, Taylor urged that Hemel Hempstead be chosen as a pilot location for the Government’s new Respect Orders. These measures are intended to empower police to deal more effectively with persistent offenders and nuisance behaviour.
“Our community is a place to be proud of, but residents tell me antisocial behaviour continues to blight parts of Hemel Hempstead, and residents have had enough. I made it clear to the Home Secretary that Hemel should be at the front of the queue for the Respect Order pilot so we can take tougher action against those who make life miserable for others.”
The MP also highlighted the importance of greater cooperation between local councils, housing associations, and the police, especially after recent enforcement activity in the town.
“Recent major operations by Hertfordshire Police have shown what can be achieved when agencies work together. That joined-up approach is essential if we’re to make lasting progress in tackling crime and restoring confidence in our community.”
Taylor also commended Hertfordshire Police for their professionalism and dedication in protecting residents.
“Our officers do an outstanding job under immense pressure.”
