Rams Make Change at Kicker, Turning to Harrison Mevis

The Los Angeles Rams will debut Harrison Mevis as their kicker Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers, replacing Joshua Karty for the game, head coach Sean McVay announced Friday.

Coaching Decision Behind the Change

McVay explained the decision involved multiple factors: “There’s a lot of layers to it. I still do have a lot of confidence in Josh Karty. But based on some of the things that we tried to evaluate throughout the course of the week... I was really pleased and proud of how Josh handled himself this week. He’s got a really bright future and has done a lot of good things for us.”

“Ultimately, the simplest question is: who do I think gives us the best chance to have successful outcomes?”

About Harrison Mevis

Mevis, an undrafted rookie from 2024, will be making his NFL debut. Prior to joining the Rams, he made 20 of 21 field goals this season in the UFL.

“It’s definitely a cool experience coming to meet new guys, really good team in there,” Mevis said Wednesday. “It’s just me doing my job and doing what I can to be the best version of myself, the best step forward for myself. If there’s any way I can help this team and make kicks, that’s what I’m here to do.”

Summary

The Rams are optimistic about Mevis kicking for them Sunday, viewing his addition as a positive step forward for both him and the team.

Author's summary: The Rams are turning to rookie Harrison Mevis for their kicker spot against the 49ers, reflecting confidence in his potential and a strategic move by Coach McVay.
