CBI books Punjab ex-DGP, his ex-minister wife for murder over son’s death

CBI files murder case against ex-Punjab DGP Mohammad Mustafa and ex-minister wife Razia Sultana

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered an FIR against former Punjab DGP Mohammad Mustafa, his wife and ex-minister Razia Sultana, and two others, in connection with the death of their 35-year-old son, Aqil Akhtar.

According to an official spokesperson, the FIR was filed on November 6 following allegations that Aqil Akhtar died under suspicious circumstances at his residence in Sector 4, near Mansa Devi Mandir, Panchkula, Haryana, on October 16.

“The CBI has registered an FIR in the Aqil Akhtar murder case on November 6... Aqil Akhtar, son of Mohammad Mustafa and Razia Sultana, died under suspicious circumstances on October 16,” said a CBI spokesperson.

The agency said that on August 27, Aqil had uploaded a video on social media accusing his family, including his mother and sister, of plotting to kill him or frame him in a false case.

Subsequently, on October 20, a case was initially lodged at the Mansa Devi Complex police station in Panchkula based on a complaint from Shamshuddin Chaudhary, a neighbour of Mustafa from Malerkotla, Punjab. He alleged foul play in Akhtar’s death.

The Haryana government transferred the investigation to the CBI on October 22 for further inquiry.
