Robert Morris knocks off Drake in eye-catching early season win

Robert Morris Scores Early Season Upset Over Drake

After losing their entire starting lineup due to transfers following an NCAA Tournament appearance last season, the Robert Morris basketball team made a strong statement just two games into the new season.

Nikolaos Chitikoudis led the way with a double-double, scoring 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. In a thrilling finish, Darius Livingston hit the decisive basket in the final minute of overtime, sealing an 81-79 victory for Robert Morris on Thursday night in Des Moines, Iowa.

This win snapped Drake's impressive 49-game nonconference home winning streak—the second-longest active streak nationwide.

“I am so proud of our team, the way they stayed together, and when we got down eight in that second half, we were able to kind of right our ship,” said head coach Andy Toole. “Our urgency defensively was so much better than the other night, and that got us going, and then that got us back in when we were down. We’ll enjoy the win, but we’ll make sure we keep our focus on how we continue to improve and get better.”

DeSean Goode contributed another double-double for Robert Morris with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Albert Vargas also made a big impact by scoring 12 points, including four three-pointers.

This early season win highlights the Colonials’ resilience and potential despite their roster overhaul.
