Cricket club honours boy killed in by ball

Cricket Club Postpones Memorial for Boy Killed by Ball

The memorial round to honor 17-year-old cricketer Ben Austin has been delayed for a weekend due to wet weather. Ben tragically died after being struck by a cricket ball in a rare accident while warming up in the nets before a T20 game last week.

Planned Tributes and Postponement

The Ferntree Gully and District Cricket Association intended to observe a minute’s silence before each match to pay tribute to Ben. However, due to weather conditions, the memorial events have been rescheduled for next week.

“Unfortunately today’s play has been abandoned – we will be doing our planned memorial tributes for Ben Austin next week, before each of the rescheduled one day games,”

said Ferntree Gully Cricket Club in a Facebook statement.

Reactions Across the Cricket Community

The club and community continue to honor Ben’s memory and legacy despite the interruption caused by weather.
