Maharashtra SEC raises star campaigner limit for local body polls
The Maharashtra State Election Commission (SEC) has increased the number of star campaigners allowed for political parties in local body elections from 20 to 40. This decision followed requests from political parties during a meeting held at the SEC office on October 14, according to an official release issued on Saturday.
Details of the new regulation
The change was informed in accordance with paragraph 26 of the Maharashtra State Political Parties Registration, Regulation and Election Symbol (Reservation and Allotment) Order, 2025. This paragraph outlines the provisions related to star campaigners.
"Considering these provisions and demands from political parties, it was decided to enhance the limit," the release stated.
Next steps for political parties
- Political parties must submit the list of their star campaigners for each local body election to the concerned district collector or municipal commissioner.
- The announcement was made during a press conference held earlier this week by Maharashtra SEC officials, who also announced the local body polls schedule.
