Twitch has acknowledged it failed to safeguard streamer Emiru during a meet-and-greet event at TwitchCon 2025 in San Diego, where she was assaulted by an attendee.
On November 7, Twitch posted a statement on X/Twitter admitting it "failed to keep Emiru safe and to prevent the assault from happening." The company expressed deep regret over the distress caused to Emiru, other streamers, and the broader community.
“Although Twitch works very hard to try to keep TwitchCon attendees safe and to prevent incidents like this from happening, we failed to do both things in this case.”
The assault occurred on October 17 during a live meet-and-greet session when a male attendee grabbed Emiru without her consent before security intervened. This incident sparked widespread outrage and renewed calls for more robust safety measures at conventions.
Creators and fans expressed strong dissatisfaction with Twitch's initial response, urging the platform to improve security protocols to ensure attendee safety at future events.
Twitch openly admitted it failed to protect Emiru from an assault at TwitchCon 2025, promising donations and improved safety measures after community backlash.
