Greater Dandenong City Council has been honoured for its strong dedication to sustainability. This week, the Council received the 2025 Cities Litter Award at the 43rd Annual Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria Tidy Towns and Cities Sustainability Awards.

The awards recognize notable environmental efforts and vibrant community spirit across Victoria. They celebrate initiatives that empower individuals, promote behaviour change, protect the environment, reduce waste, engage youth and Indigenous communities, and build resilience.

Winning Campaign: “Bin It or Take It Home With You”

The Council’s waste services team earned this award for their campaign, “Bin It or Take It Home With You.” This initiative focuses on educating the community about proper litter disposal and raising awareness about the environmental harm caused by litter.

“This award is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our Waste Services Team, not just for this project, but for the work they do every day,” said Sanjay Manivasagasivam, City Futures Executive Director. “We’re proud to lead initiatives that make our city cleaner.”

The Council emphasizes that this recognition highlights their ongoing collaboration with the local community to create a cleaner and greener Greater Dandenong for current and future generations.
