Located just nine miles north of Llano along Texas State Highway 16, Baby Head Cemetery can be found by taking a small, paved pull-off leading to a gate marked “walk in gate.” The cemetery is a sparse patch of Hill Country earth with sun-bleached stones, twisted live oaks, and an uneasy silence of legend.
“It’s right off the side of the road. It’s just an old cemetery,”
said Rebecca Flynt, who works at the visitors center in Llano. The historical marker at the cemetery tells the official story, but locals believe it runs deeper and darker, closer to myth than history. Historians admit that the details are difficult to verify.
According to Flynt,
“It’s the age of the stones,”and
“the age of the graves and the lore on the marker – that adds an element to it.”
