Developer Withdraws from Happy Hill Housing Project

A Missouri-based developer, Vecino Group, has pulled out of a planned affordable housing project in Winston-Salem’s Happy Hill neighborhood amid criticism from residents.

The project, which included 42 affordable units on city-owned land, was set to be voted on by the Winston-Salem City Council. However, Neighborhood Association President Tonya Sheffield announced that Vecino had withdrawn from the project.

"We have listened to our residents and understand their vision," she said. "We are prepared to do the hard work of community-led development.”
